1. Note:James W. Briscoe is listed in the Morgan County, Alabama 1830 Census. James W. Briscoe, JP performed a marriage ceremony for Thomas F. Doss & Lavina Curry on Sept 8, 1835. [Alabama records, Vol. 32 by Kathleen Paul Jones and Pauline Jones Ganrud.] He was Justice of the Peace in Morgan Co., Alabama in 1836 and also in Sevier Co., Arkansas, in 1847.
Not a lot is known about James early life as we aren't sure who his parents are.[ It is thought that Thomas Briscoe and Sarah Hill, who were in Morgan Co. Alabama in the 1840 and 1850 census' may be James parents, but since James was married and on his own, he isn't listed as being in their household. ]

James W. Briscoe married a second time on 15 Apr 1854 to Margarett Nobles[Naules] in Sevier Co, Ark. filed for record 4 May 1854. Record number 2, page twenty.
The following information about James W. Briscoe and his family was obtained from a letter written by Roger Rees to his mother Edna [Standlee] Rees dated 19 Jun 1952 primarily relating data obtained during a visit with "Old Squire" Graves, grandson of Lewis Graves and Margaret Standlee:
Roger was taken to the old Briscoe place to see the old home, reported by one Johnny Bean to have been built in 1857 and a very well constructed example of a pioneer home. Roger drank from the well. They went to the Fellowship Church cemetery where Roger found the headstones for Margaret Briscoe [James' second wife] inscribed "In memory of Margaret Briscoe, died July 4, 1876 age 60 years.
Shirley Hicks, great granddaughter of William Greenberry Briscoe, refers to the "Diamond Jubilee History of Tillman County [OK] published in 1976 states, quoting; "James W. Briscoe lived on an adjoining farm of Thomas Briscoe, pioneer Baptist minister of Shiloh Baptist Church, Salem Ridge, Alabama, in 1819. It is presumed that they were brothers and had come from Virginia to Anderson, So. Carolina, and then to Alabama and Arkansas. James W. Briscoe was a Justice of the Peace in Alabama and Sevier Co., Arkansas where he moved in 1837

Memorial of the inhabitants residents in the Cherokee Country relative to the late order for their removal : To the Honorable the Secretary at War, Your petitioners viewing the calamitous situation in which many of our citizens are placed, owing to an order recently described by the agent for Indian affairs of the Cherokee Nation ordering all intruders on their lands to remove by the first day of July 1819. Your petitioners believing that the same indulgence would be extended to them as has been the constant practice to others in similar circumstances, induced them to settle on the lands lately ceded to the United States by the Cherokees on the north side of Tennessee River nor did the order ever appear until late in the month of May of this year, leaving a removal of the citizens impracticable if not impossible. Your petitioners are poor but industrious farmers and to deprive them of their hard earnings in the wilderness and thus destroy their labour, where will you petitioners apply for bread for their starving families; this order enforced will involve at least ONE THOUSAND families in total ruins, nor will the evil end here. Your petitioners must subsist somewhere & thus become unwelcome guests to the frontier counties to buy a little support for their starving children. The Indians are not desirous of having the intruders driven from this land North of Tennessee, those being few in numbers, & most of which have taken reservations and are good neighbors, your petitioners therefore knowing the lenity of their government and believing they will take our case into consideration will ever pray:

I remember going with my dad in the early seventies and picking up Aunt Roxy in Greenville, Texas on her farm. She came and stayed with us for about two weeks. On the way back home my dad went through Jacksboro, Texas and stopped at a nursing home. We visited with Aunt Pearl. Aunt Pearl, I know had one son. His name was Claude, we all called him cousin Cotton. He stayed with us all the time, he and my dad were very close. Claude has passed away now when I am not for sure. I am still looking for children of my grandmothers siblings. If I find out anything I will surely let you know. I need information on my great grandparents, Charles Wesley Briscoe and Rosa (Holbort) Briscoe. They were orginally from Georgia but moved to Texas. They lived in Hill County, Aguilla, Texas around the late 1890's early 1920's. They had the following children:

Jasper Newt Briscoe (married Mary Jane Voyles and they lived in Hunt Co., Texas) much later they moved to Fresno, CA. The other children were Earl Briscoe, Troy Briscoe, Neva Briscoe, J. B. Briscoe and Roxie Briscoe (who married Claude Pemberton).

Any information would be appreciated.

I only could find Jasper Newt Briscoe in the 1930 census also. He is my wife's grandfather. Naomi listed in the 1930 census is my wife's mother.
Jasper was the son of Charles Edward Briscoe and Rosie Holbert. Charles later married Ilene Baxter.
